If you think there's truth in the phrase that good things come in small packages, then a delight awaits you at a new bar on Islington's Essex Road. On the face of it, Homeboy is a modern Irish cocktail bar. But, if you head through to the back of the bar, you'll find a diminutive treat - what's being billed as London's Smallest Irish Pub. The speakeasy-style pub is hidden in a tiny room at the back. Find yourself a chair here and enjoy whiskey highballs, Guinness and Wales v Ireland this weekend.
Both the bar and the pub, which opened just before Christmas, are clearly going to be top places to celebrate this week in the run up to St Patrick's Day. And, as you might imagine, they've planned plenty of ways to help you - ranging from special cocktails to a special boozy Irish brunch on St Patrick's Day itself.
For the drinks, they're upping the ante with their take on a traditional Irish coffee - featuring Dead Rabbit Irish Whiskey, but also incorporating coffee bitters and Dark Muscovado Syrup. Or how about a Whiskey Smash, using Roe & Co Irish Whiskey, Noilly Pratt, Mint and Spinach syrup and orange bitters?
If you're after somewhere to carb load before any drinking on the day - Homeboy's St Paddy's Day brunch sounds like a must-try with a full Irish, dressed fries and Irish stew on offer, along with delicious drinks with Roe & Co Whiskey, live Irish music throughout the day Irish DJs too.
