It's the time of year again when the Evening Standard reveals its 1000 most influential people in London - the Progress 1000. And in addition to a truly deserved top 12 of every day London heroes, it's also time to reveal the top "Tastemakers"

The Restaurant & Bar Design Awards may be the only awards list of the year where you'll find a Nando's sitting alongside popups like Coppa Club or high end London restaurants like Eneko at One Aldwych.

So another Michelin Guide announcement ceremony has come and gone. And it's clear that the huge news is that the UK (and London) has a new three star restaurant. It's been seven years since we last got one when Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester was awarded the full complement. But now The Araki in Mayfair has joined that rareified group.

The UK now has five restaurants with three stars - three of which are in London.

The annual AA 2017 Hospitality Awards took place last night and several folk in London had reason to be very pleased with themselves indeed.

Hot Dinners was down in Aldwych this morning for the announcement of the location of 2018's World's 50 Best Restaurants. So the party location was Eneko at One Aldwych, chefs in attendance included Eneko Atxa from Azurmendi; it didn't take a genius to work out that the next location would be Bilbao. It's a great spot for the awards to return to Europe, having been to Australia and America for the past two years.

The region has a good history for doing well

It seems it's ALWAYS awards season these days and the latest batch came via GQ, who last night revealed their latest Food and Drink awards in a ceremony at new Shoreditch hotel The Curtain (our invite must have got lost in the post!).
