New opening

In the midst of World War II, Jack Bateman’s Croydon-based canteen kept wartime workers fed and their spirits lifted. Now, some 70-odd years later it’s back in the form of Bateman & Co, who’ll be setting up shop in the South London Boxpark to dish out bubble and squeak, sandwiches and coffee.

The somewhat oddly named ICHIBUNS is the latest restaurant from the folk behind Nobu, Busaba Eathai etc. This one's a bid for a roll-out, featuring burgers, rolls, ramen and more on the menu. 

Owner Neil Gill knows a thing or two about catering for the souls of Finsbury Park, since opening Season 2010. Now he’s heading around the corner to turn his hand to Anglo-Japanese food, like tempura fish, sausage and aubergine, plus donburi and pickles. Plus, a healthy selection of rather fun-sounding cocktails, including a punch made with Irn Bru(!)

This new Tufnell Park vegetarian spot promises interesting dishes that just happen not to feature meat. And the drinks background of the owners suggests a bar offering that'll be exceptional

There's another new place from the people behind the ever-popular The Palomar and The Barbary, siblings Layo and Zoe Paskin. They're opening a new coffee shop called Jacob the Angel in Neal's Yard.
