So what do we need to know about Le Marché des Chefs?
They're one of a legion of top drawer suppliers to London restaurants who are having to find new customers in the light of the London lockdown.
Which restaurants did they supply?
Properly quality ones - like Ducasse at the Dorchester, Hide, Hélène Darroze, The Ritz, Rules, Portland, Sabor and too many more to name. So yes, that's a pretty impressive list.
What's their offering?
They do a range of four food hampers, sent out weekly (for the moment). Choose from gourmet, pescatarian or vegetarian - and then you can add on additional meat or fish. The hampers change every week, to provide variety if you're ordering regularly as well as making sure you're being sent produce at its best.
We tried the Gourmet Hamper (£70) - here's what was in ours:
Tarocco Blood Oranges, sausages from Greenwich butcher O'Hagan's, white and green asparagus from Les Landes in South West France, a punnet of Label Rouge Gariguette strawberries, radishes, carrots, heritage tomatoes, line-caught wild sea bass fillets, heritage Crapaudine beetroot, two sirloin steaks and two salmon fillets.
So, that's easily enough for two people to eat well for a week. As for the quality, well what's good enough for Alain Ducasse or Nieves Barragan worked very well for us.
The tomatoes were so good, they just needed a drizzle of olive oil and salt as a salad. We had a go at this Daniel Humm recipe for the radishes (which worked pretty well) and the sea bass was used in a ceviche. We'd never used white asparagus before so cooked that up with some homemade wild garlic pesto.
I'm sold. How do I order?
