Christopher's Bar and Grill getting makeover from new owner

Iconic London restaurant Christopher’s Bar and Grill looks set to get a bit of an image overhaul following its sale to Ambar Paul, son of the Indian industrialist and British peer Swraj Paul.

In interviews with various Indian newspapers following the purchase, Paul said he was intending to spend up to £1million giving the 18-year-old restaurant a makeover to try and bring down the average age of diners there.

‘When I've been there recently, most customers seem to be in the 40 to 60 age range. I want to broaden its appeal, ‘ he said. ‘Today’s millionaires are in their 20s and 30s in the UK.'

Paul is also looking at the idea of rolling out more branches of Christopher’s in London. ‘Christopher's is unique, so we'll have to see what name we use for the roll-out.’ Good news though for anyone who’s a fan of the menu, which hasn’t changed much, if at all, over the years. The new owner has no immediate plans to change anything there.

Christopher’s was opened in 1991 by Christopher Gilmour as an upmarket American steakhouse.
