L'Anima chef heads to Pizza Express and Earl C takes on the Oriel

Hot Dinners' news round-up

By far one of the most entertaining stories of the week was that of Earl Cadogan vs the Oriel.  The Earl managed to elicit the envy of many a reviewer suffering after a bad meal, by using his position as the restaurant's landlord and refusing to renew the Oriel's lease after experiencing a bad meal.  "I didn't like the food and the prices are far too high," said the Earl.  That's one bad review the Oriel could have done without, and we'll bet they are left wishing they'd given him a discount...

Elsewhere, we learn that Pizza Express has hired highly rated L'Anima's head chef, Francesco Mazzei, to pep up the menu for the popular pizzeria.  He'll be producing 6 new dishes to be sold from February onwards, including three new pizzas.  The busy chef has brought in ingredients from his home town in Calabria and is currently heading around the country to train Pizza Express's chefs, ready for the launch.

We've also noted this week that the Anish Kapoor designed sculpture planned for the Olympic Park also includes the possibility that the structure will hopefully incorporate a new restaurant. We'll be keeping an eye out for some more announcements.

And even restaurant reviewers can get a bit catty, as Jasper Gerard takes a swipe at a popular restaurant guide in his latest review, telling readers: "I won't mention the guide's name because a poor cove there gets terribly excitable whenever he sees his name in print."  Of course, if you read the review, anyone who's heard of that thing called "google" will be able to work out who he's talking about....

Plus, if you've missed our news on the site this week, don't forget:

And finally - for your delectation - Marco Pierre White takes Times readers through one of his typical days.
