Over the past two years nascent restaurateurs Ria and Dave Morgan-Ratcliffe have opened two wildly successful pizzerias, Ria's, in Notting Hill and then Soho. Their winning formula of Detroit-style pizza and natural wines has been a big hit with Londoners. The husband-and-wife team live in Highgate, and they've agreed to share their favourite local spots with us.
Prince of Wales
53 Highgate High St, London N6 5JX
Given the size of London and the volume of people, I never thought I’d have a local where they know my order and the glass is already being grabbed when I walk in. But this pub is a local's dream, with the same crowd every single day. If we’re not there, 3 Guinness deep on a Sunday, something’s gone wrong.
Superette
Unit 5 Swain's Ln, London N6 6AG
Where I go when I want some slightly fancier grocery goods or some great craft beers for home. Now we just need to get our hot honey listed in there!
Red Lion and Sun
25 North Rd, London N6 4BE
The best pub meal! Fun fact, I actually passed out and got stretchered out by the paramedics on my 29th birthday here. And the most upsetting part was my brother stayed to eat my food!
Cricks Corner
80 Dartmouth Park Hill, Archway, London N19 5HU
The best cup of coffee. In summer months we stop here on our cycle to work or the gym pretty much every morning for a great coffee and sit outside to catch some sunshine. The best way to start the day.
The Duke of St Albans
15 Highgate Rd, London NW5 1QX
One thing Highgate doesn’t lack is great pubs. This one is relatively new and has been a great independent addition to the area with so many craft beer options and outdoor seating just on the edge of the heath.
