The Prince Arthur is moving from Belgravia to Chelsea, becoming a restaurant and bar on the way

At the beginning of last year, a fancy new pub opened in Belgravia in the shape of The Prince Arthur. It offered something genuinely different on the London gastropub scene, specialising in a menu of Basque cuisine; they even had their own-brand caviar. It was definitely not your typical pub, but quickly found an audience, and we were also impressed. 

Since then, the same team didn't have as much luck with their second opening, the trio of  Arthur's Market, ASA and Salvador, which only lasted six months in Chelsea. But they're giving Chelsea another try, this time bringing The Prince Arthur with them. The pub is completely relocating to a new location, just down the road from Daphne's (apparently taking over from the short-lived Kino). 

They said that the original Belgravia extraction set-up meant that they were unable to keep cooking over live charcoal, which we can imagine was a bit of a problem for the kitchen's Basque-style cooking. That won't be an issue with the new location, which will also bring the kitchen out front with a fire right in the middle of the room (try not to think about that as we enter another heatwave). Downstairs it will be a restaurant, while upstairs they'll have the Chelsea Music Bar. That's a bar with a late licence that's "inspired by Tokyo’s late-night listening bars".

It does mean they lose the "pub" aspect of The Prince Arthur, which is a bit of a shame as that was one of its unique features. But the cooking by Head Chef Adam Iglesias is good, so he should be given more opportunity to shine here.
