A Wong is getting a big brush-up for a few weeks over summer, and that means the team are going to have to close the restaurant in Pimlico. But it doesn't mean Andrew Wong's two-Michelin-starred restaurant is shutting up shop completely - instead, they're moving it to Mayfair.
A Wong is going to be taking over the private dining space next to the Atrium restaurant. That's a pretty sizable space (from our recollection), and they'll be serving the "Collection of China" menu there for six weeks. That features dishes like his Isle of Mull seared scallop and honey-glazed Iberico char siu, Scalded oysters with ‘fish fragrant’ aubergine sauce (which we tried here) and a dim sum section featuring "Memories of Peking Duck".
The Mandarin Oriental hasn't had the smoothest run in its Mayfair home when it comes to its restaurants. First off, Akira Back was touted as the big attraction, but he left the hotel after only a year. They also had a Michelin-starred restaurant with Somssi, but that restaurant closed just a few weeks after winning it for the second year. Hopefully, A Wong will give them the win they need.
So, if you haven't had the opportunity to try A Wong in Pimlico, this is a chance to try it in a much more central location.
