Attention North London, or more specifically Stokey, there’s a new LA-inspired restaurant heading your way.
From the founder of Hackney’s Facing Heaven and Easy 8 in London Fields, Johnny Boy’s will be inspired by the SoCal comfort food Julian Denis grew up with in LA. The culinary influences from LA’s immigrant communities are vast, and Johnny Boy’s intends to be a
neighbourhood venue that embraces them, from breakfast burritos and chilaquiles to crab tostadas and patty melts.
Opening on the former Thai Cafe site, Johnny Boy’s will initially open for dinner, with big cosy booths and Formica tables in a colourful space, and expand to breakfast and lunch on weekends. Here’s what you can expect from a sample menu:
- All-Day Breakfast burrito: bacon, sausage or chorizo, eggs, tots, beans, cheese, salsa
- Chilaquiles Verde: tortilla chips, salsa verde, chicken, beans, fried egg, cotija
- French toast with whipped butter and maple syrup
- Maple and Old-Fashioned Donuts
On the drinks side of things, you can enjoy cocktails like the Orange Bang Sour (bourbon, vanilla, orange, bitters) or their take on a Michelada (beer, clamato, salsa inglesa, Tapatio, chamoy). There’ll also be a short wine list and beers, including Modelo and PBR.
If you’re a fan of American-style bottomless filter coffee, just like you see in films, this is also the place for that.
