Dom Taylor's Caribbean restaurant the Good Front Room finds a permanent home in Dalston

Chef Dom Taylor's The Good Front Room was a massive hit when it took over the Palm Court at The Langham for the best part of a year. He had won a reality TV programme, Five Star Chef, where the prize was to open a restaurant and he more than delivered the goods

Since then, the chef has been looking for a new location for the restaurant. He did open a more casual Caribbean place, but that didn't last long, unfortunately. So, a couple of years down the line from the Good Front Room's last service, it's coming back. Dom has found a space in Dalston, just beside Dalston Junction station (taking over from Mildreds), and this will be its new home. He was popping up with a supperclub there before Christmas; this is making things permanent.

As before, the restaurant will showcase modern interpretations of Caribbean cuisine. Starters on the new menu include a coco stack slider, Irish ‘proper’ chips and maple, lime and chilli-glazed plantain as well as rum & raisin pork belly strips. The main dishes feature a short rib brown stew, whole jerk chicken for two and a seafood boil. And finally, there will be a sweet potato sticky toffee pudding for dessert.

On the drinks side, there will be a rum punch (Wray & Nephew, Kraken Dark Rum, ginger, pimento, pineapple, lime and cherry syrup) while beers include Red Stripe and Dragon stout.

On the opening, Dom says, "The Good Front Room is inspired by my great-aunt Myrtle and the sacred front rooms found in so many Caribbean homes, spaces kept for special guests and layered with pride and memory. As a grandchild of the Windrush generation, I feel a responsibility to carry the torch and keep our stories, recipes, and traditions alive."

The original Good Front Room was always packed, so hopefully this will be a big hit too.
