5/6/24 - updated with menu details
Covent Garden’s Henrietta Hotel has always been at the cutting edge of fine dining, the 19th-century townhouse opening in 2017 with Michelin-starred chef Ollie Dabbous at its restaurant before he moved on to Hide). Now comes the news that Jackson Boxer (Brunswick House, Orasay and more recently of The Corner at Selfridges fame) is opening a bistro on the Henrietta Hotel’s ground floor with the Experimental Group.
Called Henri, the bistro comes hot on the heels of their collaboration at Cowley Manor Experimental in the Cotswolds (a solid entry on our recent list of the best new UK hotels, inns and restaurants with rooms). Cowley Manor Experimental was also selected this week as the winner of Condé Nast Traveller’s The UK’s Top New Restaurant Awards.
Henri is a Parisian-style affair, and dishes revealed for the menu include:
- Seaweed Canelé with crème crue and trout roe
- Grilled Snails with green garlic and veal rice
- Cod with a crab bisque and lime leaf
- Half or whole Roast Chicken with turnips and morels
They'll also have steak frites at lunchtime and a 1kg Côte de Boeuf for dinner while desserts include a Grand Marnier soufflé with frozen almond.
You should expect the flair of Experimental’s cocktails too, all named after "French icons" like the Gaston, made with cognac, Rittenhouse rye, Byrrh, Aperol, green chartreuse, maple syrup and bitters.
All of this is to say that Henri Bistro will most definitely be worth checking out (before or after a Covent Garden theatre visit would be ideal), with the décor overseen by French interior designer Dorothée Meilichzon, aiming to evoke the beauty of Paris’ visuals with hints of historical Covent Garden.
