Back when we first visited Carlo Scotto's restaurant Amethyst, we spotted that there was quite a lovely downstairs bar space. But the exacting chef wanted to get his restaurant operating perfectly before he moved on to working out what to do with that bar.
Now he's about to open it as Vinum wine bar. The space is pretty small, seating just 16 guests, and the idea is to offer a range of rare finds alongside wine flights and food by Carlo.
Head Sommelier Ennio Pucciarelli is the man behind the wine list. He'll be offering European or World flights as well as giving guests the chance to try some vintage wines from the restaurant's cellars, by the glass.
Tying in with the eclectic wine list will be a small plates menu of snacks that will change seasonally. Dishes on the launch menu include:
- Homemade bread with Tête de Moine cheese & saffron caramel
- Japanese scallops with wasabi caviar & teriyaki
- Truffle arancini with parmesan cheese & gochujang mayo
We were huge fans of the restaurant itself, so the chance to pop down here for a glass of wine and a dish of something extraordinary sounds like a major draw for Mayfair.
