Get Baked, Leeds’ cult bakery, comes to Islington’s Neighbourhood restaurant

get baked islington pop up

There’s a new dessert offering at Islington’s Neighbourhood restaurant and it comes courtesy of Leeds’ famed Get Baked bakery.

If the name rings bells, you may recall its rise to fame in late 2021, thanks to ‘Sprinklegate’, where the Trading Standards shut down baker Rich Myers’ use of US-imported sprinkles, as they contained the red food colouring E127, which is banned in the UK apart from use in cocktail cherries and candied cherries. Rich, who founded the bakery in 2011, has certainly not taken this lying down; he’s since created his own sprinkles (called Expen$ive) and written a cookbook.

If you’ve not had the pleasure of trying out his renegade sprinkle action on baked goods in Yorkshire, then there are extra reasons to seek out his Neighbourhood launch, because there’ll be limited-edition collaborations with some of his chef friends, starting with Sabrina Ghayour. Together they’ll be offering a sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch, Dark Arts Coffee, cinnamon, cardamom, and other secret ingredients (to be honest, they already had us at ‘sticky toffee pudding’).

Also on the menu:

  • Bruce Pudding: the most famous of Rich’s desserts, a 24-layer chocolate cake designed for two to three people to share and served with hot chocolate fudge, chocolate crumble and milk ice-cream
  • Baked Cherry Custard Pie: shortcrust pastry, cherry, baked custard and spiced crumble, served with Tongan vanilla ice-cream
  • Get Baked Alaska: fudge brownie, milk ice cream, Italian meringue, bullion 55%, served with fire
  • Speculoos Pie: speculoos biscuit, spiced caramel, biscoff, vanilla cream, served with milk ice-cream
  • Sundae: Salted chocolate brownie, hot fudge, house whipped cream, malt ice cream, Expen$ive sprinkles

With Get Baked now being the permanent dessert offering at Neighbourhood, there's even more reason to go and check out the Islington spot now.
