In the same month we lost one of London's oldest restaurants (fingers crossed that's only temporary) it's good to hear that another of London's eighteenth century hostelries is being resurrected.
The Bleeding Heart Wine Bar's doors have been closed since the pandemic. And faint hearts may have concluded that it was never going to see action again. But this week the bar is reopening its doors, albeit in a slightly different spot. The bar's been relocated within Bleeding Heart Yard to the Tavern - a pub which dates back to 1746 when its un-PC slogan was "drunk for a penny, dead drunk for two pence.” The yard itself was also immortalised in Dickens' Little Dorrit.
Running the kitchen will be chef Phil Cooper whose launch menu will feature chicken livers on toast and his signature Bleeding Heart on mash along with suckling piglets from the rotisserie grill.
As for the wine, bar manager and sommelier Thomas Guignard is in charge of that. To the original list of Bleeding Heart favourites, he's been busy building a range of organic and natural wines to add.
If you haven't been before - it's long been one of our favourite spots in London - this reopening gives you the chance to set that right.
