Ever since it opened its doors this summer, Notting Hill pub The Pelican has been packing them in, whether it's locals wanting a piece of that lobster pie or celebrities after a quiet-ish drink.
Now the chaps behind it - owners James Gummer and Phil Winser – are taking the pub on a jaunt to the countryside. They're popping up at The Bull Inn in Charlbury in the heart of the Cotswolds. It's a bit of a homecoming for the pair. "Phil and I grew up here, had our first pints in The Bull," says James. They're bringing head chef Owen Kenworthy with them and, for six weeks, he'll be serving up signature dishes from the Notting Hill menu alongside dishes with ingredients supplied by local farms.
On the menu you'll find:
- Raw Beef with Gentlemen’s Relish
- Potted Shrimp & Cucumber
- Chicken & Leek Pie
- Onglet & Shallot
- Parkin & Custard
There will also be proper bar snacks including their own pork scratchings, sausage rolls and mince on toast.
For Londoners thinking of making the trek out west, it's apparently an easy rail hop from Paddington to Charlbury station.
