Amazon Fresh opened its first UK store just weeks ago in Ealing, attracting huge queues. Since then, another has just opened in Wembley Park and we're just getting wind of yet another new opening in Islington too.
We've heard that they're taking over the large ex-tram depot building on Upper Street in Islington, The Mall, last used by Sofa.com and a whole slew of other operators before it. It's one of the most prominent buildings in the area, and is Grade II listed on top of that. If anyone can make a go of that space, and frankly many have failed, it's Amazon.
if you're not up to speed with what Amazon Fresh is - it's essentially an Amazon grocery store, competing with Tesco, Sainsbury's and the like. It's particularly unique because you use the Amazon app to enter, pick up your shopping and you're automatically billed on the way out without having to pay for it at any till. It's sorcery, we tell you!
There will probably be queues for this when it opens too - something we can't quite get our heads around, to be honest. Unless they had a PS5 in stock. Now that, we could understand.
We'll add more news as we get it.
