A new 28:50 wine bar has arrived in Covent Garden

A new 28:50 wine bar has arrived in Covent Garden

9/12/19 - updated with opening details

A brand new 28:50 has quietly launched in Covent Garden. The wine bar group started off in Fetter Lane and grew to three different sites over the years, but right now only the Marylebone wine bar remains. The bar was previously launched by Xavier Rousset, but he left to open Blandford Comptoir and Comptoir Cafe.

The original venture focuses on 30 wines by the glass, carafe or bottle - combined with a modern European menu. The Covent Garden venue - which takes over from the recently demised Cantina Laredo - will serve much the same, although it's much bigger, seating around 180.

Here's some of what's on the menu:

  • Corn-Fed Chicken Breast with Hispi Cabbage & Shallots
  • Artichoke Tempura with Chermoula Mayonnaise
  • Stone Bass with Celeriac Choucroute & Shellfish Bisque
  • Stone Bass with a shellfish bisque
  • Hot Dog with Caramelised Onion, Ketchup, Mustard Pomme Paille & Brioche Roll

And wines remain a big thing with all of the wines on the main list available by the glass (prices starting at £4.70 for 125 ml) including a fine wines coravin section.  Although if you have a spare £1250, the main fine wines list is the place to go.

So if you're in the Covent Garden area - this could be a very handy drinking spot.
