  • Nanashi Japanese kitchen opens on Rivington Street

    nanashi

Slipping almost under the radar (and frankly, only spotted because we went past it last night) is new Shoreditch sushi spot Nanashi. It's appeared on Rivington Street in a room with a pared-back modernist look.

As for the menu, it's pretty much what you expect, split into the usual mix of sushi, sashimi, gyoza, udon and tempura. A few things caught our eye, namely:

    • sushi burger - fried rice buns with fresh veg, salmon or tuna in a spicy sauce vegetable

There are waves of excitement are rippling over north London this week following news that the Korean restaurant Dotori is about to reopen.

The beloved Finsbury Park restaurant, which was always notoriously busy throughout its eight year run, shut unexpectedly in summer last year. The closure was made even more mysterious by the fact it followed a lengthy period of refurbishment, including refitting the basement to accommodate more diners, which were never in short

Mayfair's Japanese restaurant Chisou has just opened Kiri. They're describing it as the baby of a family which also has restaurants in Knightsbridge and Chiswick. What that means in practice is that it'll serve modern Japanese dishes with some Korean influences. So you'll find Korean fried chicken alongside miso black cod and spiced sweet potato croquettes alongside hirata buns and kimchee fried rice with Japanese mushrooms.

It's fair to say that the Edgware Road probably isn't the first place you'd think of dining in some sort of modernist Japanese sky high pub. But that's exactly what's opening there this Spring. KOJAWAN - the name is an amalgam of Korea, Japan and Taiwan - is the brainchild of Bjorn Van Der Horst (Greenhouse, La Noisette, Eastside Inn) and Omar Romero (Rhodes Twenty Four, Rosewood).
