Meat People open Islington steakhouse on Essex Road

meatpeople2For years it served up epic fried breakfasts as Alfredos, then it turned into a branch of the sausage franchise S&M, now the listed cafe at 4-6 Essex Road is sticking to its meaty origins and becoming Islington's first steakhouse. Run by the same people who own the Ladybird bar on Upper Street, it'll be opening in the next two weeks (dates to be confirmed) serving up "high quality and reliably sourced steaks and meat as well as quirky world wines and retro cocktails".

Inside, the interior's been restored back to its 1920s glory - the cafe also has a claim to fame as it starred in 1960s iconic film Quadrophenia. There'll be 38 covers as well as 10 outside seats coming soon under a covered and heated awning.

"We source our meats from many well respected producers from across the world," Meat People's Patrick May told Hot Dinners. "We have meat from Argentina, Chile, Spain and Britain to name a few. All of which are grass fed and raised by farmers who care."

Opening hours will be 12-12 every day except Sunday when they'll take last orders at 11pm.

Meat People will open 18 January 2012 on 4-6 Essex Road.
