What: Laki Kane

In a nutshell: Tiki rum bar on Islington's Upper Street

Summing it all up: Ex-Mahiki bar manager Georgi Radev is bringing his love of rum and all thing tropical to Islington with a tiki bar where you can mix your own rums and enjoy crazy cocktails.

The low-down

Move over Mahiki. Islington is getting a cocktail bar designed to transport North Londoners to the tropics. Laki Kane, which is opening on Upper Street in the spot vacated by Be At One, has ex-Mahiki bar manager Georgi Radev as one of its co-founders. He'll be bringing his passion for rum to North London along with partners Sam Robson and Islington resident and businessman Steve Kyprianou.

And the place does look pretty crazy with rush roofing, rope ladders and a whole load of tiki-styled prints across two floors and every table featuring a call button for service. Yup, this is not your average Upper Street drinking hole.

Drinks-wise, the bar will feature cocktails made from rums from all the world (they're promising no refined sugars will be used) and they also be making their own N1 rums, re-distilled on-site and upstairs in its Spiced Dry Rum Club, where drinkers can book masterclasses to create and flavour their own spiced rums to take home with them, using real pot stills.

Downstairs you'll find a cocktail list served in eye popping drinking vessels and a bar menu designed by chef Michael Moore (who used to run his own restaurant on Blandford Street and trained up at The Savoy under Anton Edelman)  featuring tropical-inspired dishes to compliment the cocktail offering.

As Georgi explains: "Laki Kane is an escape and we're creating everything with that in mind, from the decor and service, to the food and an exciting cocktail menu made with incredible tropical ingredients that most people will have never experienced before."
