Hippodrome Leicester Square reopens in 2012 with casino and Heliot Lounge Bar & Restaurant

hippodrome leicester squareThe Hippodrome Leicester Square has been many things over the years: most recently it's been host to cabaret The Clique, before that it was a Peter Stringfellow nightclub, in the 60s and 70s it was Talk of the Town.

Right now it's undergoing a £36m refurbishment to turn it into a massive four-floored casino complete with restaurant, private dining rooms and a two-tiered smoking terrace.

The Heliot Lounge Bar & Restaurant at the Hippodrome will take over the main balcony area overlooking the casino. It will have 140 covers and according to a spokesperson, will "serve a contemporary British menu with a focus on dining, cocktails and entertainment". It will be run by The One Group, an American company who are responsible for several New York spots including the rooftop bar at the Gansevoort Hotel in New York's meatpacking district, Bistrot Bagatelle and celebrity hangout STK.

Owner Simon Thomas says; “First and foremost, we’re not solely about gaming. The Hippodrome Casino is about fun, entertainment, great food and drink in amazing surroundings."

The Hippodrome will open on Leicester Square in April 2012.
