Green Goat food offer a very British street food experience

greengoatfoodWith so much attention being given to the burger and all things BBQ it's a refreshing change to hear about a new street van focusing on seafood and underused cuts of meat. Green Goat Food company is the brainchild of Claude Compton and Jan Smith. The pair met at university and both went on to work in food - Claude at the Michelin-starred Petersham Nurseries and Jan with top-end caterers Urban Caprice.

Their van can be found at Whitecross Market every Thursday and Friday and at Battersea High St Market on Saturdays. On Whitecross days they sell sustainable Cornish fish and Seafood so you'll find mackerel and chorizo burgers or coconut glazed pollock with dhal. At Battersea they have a menu which includes under-used cuts of meat and seasonal fruit and veg - so look out for beef blade sarnies or Moroccan lamb burgers with harissa sauce and roast peppers.

"Our aim is to promote the use of under-loved species, showcasing a seasonal, ethical and patriotic menu in unusual and creative ways, " explains Claude. "When we started this, we vowed that we could serve the same quality of fish from a van as from the Petersham kitchen and I think we've met that challenge. Our high-end restaurant and very British inspired way of cooking provides a far less heavy form of the US style street food mostly on offer at the moment."
