For the fourth year running we spent a very happy couple of hours in the sweltering sunshine of Regent's Park this week, as part of a panel of judges deciding the Best in Taste Awards at this year's Taste of London. Yes, we know, it's hard job etc... Here's what we thought were the best of the dishes we tried, including the winner and runner-up.
Best in Taste - this year's best of the best was this from Flesh & Buns: Sweet & spicy BBQ pork ribs topped with spring onion (£8). Not only were these ribs great tasting, they were also one of the best-priced dishes we tried.
Roka: For a second year running, Roka's Kankoku Fu Kohitsuji - lamb cutlets marinated in Korean spices (£12) - proved to be one of the most popular dishes with the judges.
Manzi's: Not only was this a lovely looking dish, but Manzi's king prawn burger in a brioche bun with Manzi's house sauce (£7) was also one of our favourites on the night (and good value).
Dumpling's Legend: from the dumpling house's Taste of London menu came this very luxe basket of dumplings stuffed with black truffle, lobster tail & scallop (£14).
Bebe Bob: If you're looking for a cool dish to enjoy at Taste during the current heatwave, then Bebe Bob's sour cream soft serve ice cream, topped with olive oil and Oscietra caviar (£8), is definitely the one to go for.
Bocconcino: from Mayfair restaurant Bocconcino came this intense lobster risotto (£14), which we noted was very generous with the lobster too.
Runner-up was high-rise restaurant Oblix. Their crispy buttermilk fried chicken is served with a chilli, honey and lime glaze (£8) and fresh jalapenos, and came with a cooling dip.
Norma, which won this year's Best Dressed Stand, served up a great seafood snack in this Crab Panelle (£13), a chickpea fritter topped with lemon zest aioli-dressed Cornish king crab and flying fish roe.
We had two very good lamb dishes this year, including this one from Roti King - grilled marinated lamb chops served with a satay sauce and cucumber (£14).
Notting Hill's Empire Empire was responsible for this spicy beef skewer - a Wagyu Beef Bihari Boti (£12) which came with some very good pickled carrots.
Bone Daddies' offering was the return of a fan favourite. Their Korean Army Ramen featured crispy noodles in chicken broth with kimchi, wiener, soy egg and kizami nori (£9)
