My Manor - Sam Harrison's local guide to Hammersmith

Sam Harrison food and drink tips Hammersmith

Restaurateur Sam Harrison has been in the business since he was 16. In 2019 he opened his Thameside restaurant Sam's Riverside. Since then he's kept himself busy opening two Sam's Kitchens, a Sam's Waterside and Larder in Brentford and a Sam's Larder in Hammersmith. A longtime West London resident he's agreed to share his Hammersmith food and drink recommendations with us.

I love this pub, which is just a short walk from our house. They always look after us, including our two-year old. It’s a proper pub that also does consistently great food. We normally go for an early supper as a family - I especially rate their Caesar salad – but we also often have a late Sunday lunch, after I have worked in one of my own places. My daughter’s favourite is their croquettes!

Again, a short walk from where we live, it’s in Askew Road with some of the best Italian food in London. Giulia Quagia is out front and husband Endris Kerbizi is in the kitchen. Utterly charming service, alongside very memorable food. Who could want more from a local? The ravioli in particular is top notch, and they have great Italian wines by the glass, too.

This is everything that you want from a local wine shop, and it also sells some terrific cheeses. Malik is very much part of the local community and sources very good wines. I love that I almost always bump into someone I know when I visit in the shop, and we end up talking wines and mutually recommending bottles to try.

Only open a couple of days a week, this Japanese bakery is a little bonkers, but I love it! Top tips to try are the Tokyo Milk Loaf and the Yuzu Custard Tart. (Closed till 6 September).

163 Askew Rd, London W12 9AU

For really great coffee and brunch, Burnt is inventive and fun, and the kind of food I always want to eat. Great sourcing as well with fabulous produce. They normally have incredible buttermilk pancakes as well as a twist on kedgeree, which is utter heaven. They also open a couple of evenings a week, and have one of the cutest little courtyards in West London.
