It's poutine and the Premier League for Kensington at new Canadian sports bar LaCage

Back in the 1920s it was built as a branch of Woolworths. Now a hundred years later, instead of an American retail giant, we've got a Canadian brand taking over the space on Kensington High Street. LaCage is a Montreal institution that's the place to watch hockey games. Here in London, it's taking a broader approach to the types of sports shown, but the food is going to be broadly the same.

The London branch (their first outside Canada) is a massive space, set across two floors and with space designed to show a whole range of sporting fixtures whether you're into the footie, rugby, F1 or darts. And, as you might expect from its origins, there's a distinct Canadian bent to the food. Obviously there will be poutine; choose from classic or buffalo with toppings like maple bacon or short rib. They also go big on tartares here, which probably isn't something you see in most London sports bars. And if you want a lobster roll while you watch the match that's also possible alongside cobb salads and Montreal-style pizza.

There's Molson and Moosehead by the bottle, although not on draught, but it's probably the cocktails that lean mostly towards the bar's Canadian origins with a lot of drinks featuring maple syrup, like their Maple Old Fashioned, and a classic Québec serve called the Montréal Caesar made with vodka, Clamato, Montréal spice and maple bacon.

Honestly, it all sounds like a fun place to go and we haven't even mentioned the Beavertails yet, their Montréal-style doughnuts sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and served with maple ice cream and dark chocolate sauce.
