The FT celebrated four London restaurants in its inaugural Business Lunch Awards this week

For a while, it looked like the business lunch was at risk of being made redundant, due to everyone now dining al desko. So we're delighted to hear that the scene appears to be in ruder health than ever.

This week, the FT held its inaugural awards to celebrate restaurants that do a particularly good job when it comes to having lunch with your clients or colleagues. A panel, which included the likes of FT food and restaurant writers Tim Hayward, Jay Rayner, Marina O’Loughlin and Ajesh Patalay took a shortlist compiled from reader nominations and whittled those down to come up with five winners.

  • Best New Opening: Legado in Shoreditch
  • Best Food: Bouchon Racine in Farringdon
  • Best atmosphere: Luca
  • Best Out of Town: The Bull in Charlbury
  • Judges Choice: St John

"The business lunch is proof that the very best conversations really do happen over well-laid restaurant tables," said the paper's critic Jay Rayner, "and I’m delighted that we’re celebrating that noble institution."
