Once thought to have been dealt a killing blow by the lockdowns, the past couple of years have been a boom time for food halls. The latest to join the fray is the newest Market Place and it's easily their most central London location yet.
So far, they've opened in places like St Paul's, Vauxhall and Peckham (with a Baker Street outpost planned too). But their Leicester Square opening is their most central location by far, and it's one they're touting as being "London's largest food hall". Apparently, there will be sixteen kitchens in the venue, spread out over several floors. It looks like it took over the site of Salt burger bar, which only seemed to last a year, but Market Place has clearly taken over more of the building, all five storeys of it.
As for what's on the menu here, that's yet to be announced. Other venues have features everything from sushi and birria tacos to burgers and drunken noodles, so expect a similarly wide offering here. In addition to the food, they're promising three bars, screens for sporting matches and live events.
There's a big captive market in Leicester Square that Market Place could work very well for, so we can see this doing rather well.
