Eastern-Med-inspired Claro comes to London

Eastern-Med-inspired Claro comes to London

A new Eastern Med restaurant is coming to London, this one having originally started in Tel Aviv. The London version of Claro is landing in St James, opening in the building that once held Villandry.

It comes from chef Ran Shmueli, the owner and founder of the group, and the restaurant is billed as serving up "contemporary Mediterranean food with Middle Eastern influences." The London menu hasn't been revealed yet, but the original location features dishes like:

  • Figs focaccia & sirloin roast, arisa butter, spicy wild leaves, spiced honey
  • Lamb cigar, freekeh, herbs, honey & spicy zhug aioli, burnt tomato & coriander salsa
  • Corn & shrimps gnocchi, bacon butter, crispy kale, green onion, chili

That's just a taster and we'll have to see just what makes it to the London restaurant, which will also have a weekend brunch. If you'd ever been to Villandry, the main room is a big double-height space (it was once a bank) and they'll also have a large terrace that should be just far enough away from the St James/Piccadilly Square crowds.

Apparently, they have plans for more Claro restaurants in the UK, but we'll have to see how this one goes first.
