After three barren years, the great and good of the food world returned to the Freemasons Hall in central London for the return of the Observer Food Monthly Awards for the first time since the pandemic. Hosted by Jay Rayner and Grace Dent, the ceremony saw the finest in British food and drink rewarded for their efforts.
There were standing ovations for several category winners - the Cook for Ukraine team and Taz Khan from the London Community Kitchen which feeds almost 14,000 people a week from its food banks and surplus shops. But there wasn't a dry eye in the house, including that of presenter Andrew Wong, when Shun-Bun Lee of New Loon Fung in Chinatown picked up his award for Lifetime Achievement.
