In a nutshell: Soho’s Italian-Spanish restaurant Ember Yard to relaunch with a new menu.

Summing it all up: Ember Yard, the fourth of the Salt Yard Group’s Spanish-Italian’s restaurants, will re-open its Soho doors with a new design and new menu after a month-long refurbishment.

The low-down

After closing for a month's refurbishment, Ember Yard in Soho is about to relaunch with a brand-new menu and a new restaurant design.

Why mess with a good thing, you may ask? It’s part of the Urban Pubs and Bars takeover of the Salt Yard Group in 2018, which also comprises Opera Tavern in Covent Garden, Salt Yard in Fitzrovia and Dehesa Tapas Bar (also in Soho). Following a successful renovation of the Opera Tavern in Covent Garden over the summer, Urban Pubs and Bars turned their attention to Ember Yard, deciding to strip it back to basics to reignite the buzz associated with its 2013 opening, when London couldn’t get enough of its wood-fired grilling and Basque-style barbecuing.

So what can we expect? There’s a new Ember Bar in the basement, for starters, promising velvet banquettes, antique mirrors and DJs playing chilled-out tunes on Friday and Saturday evenings while you can sip from a selection of new smoked cocktails or imported Spanish and Italian craft beers. (This space is also available for private hire.) The ground floor restaurant will have an eclectic mix of design contrasts to encourage an informal dining experience: leather banquettes, smoked mirrors, exposed steel beams.

Importantly, the food will still feature large sharing plates and tapas from the Josper Grill. Ember Yard’s head chef Christian Parisi has worked his way around all restaurants in the Salt Yard Group and is responsible for the relaunch menu, which includes:

  • Membrillo-glazed pork ribs with spring onion, hazelnuts and smoked chilli jam
  • Grass-fed rib-eye with chicken jus
  • Marinated chicken thighs with celeriac, truffle and date mascarpone
  • Smoked confit sea trout, mussels sauce and mushroom tapenade
  • Spiced roasted cauliflower, pistachio puree and onion jam
