Husband and wife team Sarit Packer and Itamar Srulovich have a roster of Middle Eastern restaurants, delis and bakeries in London. Their first, Honey & Co, opened in 2012 followed the grill house Honey & Smoke and food store Honey & Spice close behind. They now also run Honey & Co. Daily in Bloomsbury as well as Honey & Co. Studio, part deli, part gallery as a home for regular events and creative collaborations.
They have written four cookbooks, write regularly for FT Weekend and The Guardian, and host a podcast, Honey & Co: The Food Sessions. Today they’ve agreed to share their favourite food and drink places close to their home in Stockwell.
Serrana
Delicatessen Serrana, 224 Clapham Rd, London SW9 0PZ
Stockwell has a proud Portuguese heritage, and Serrana is the beating heart of the community, as well as a treasure trove of delicious Portuguese produce like cheese, charcuterie, wine, tinned fish and - personal favourite - olive oil potato crisps. They also make the most delicious sandwiches to order, take a bread roll to the till and choose your filling: cod fritters, fried chicken, omelette, infinitely better then Pret and somehow cheaper.
The Canton Arms
177 S Lambeth Rd, London SW8 1XP
The local pub of your dreams: nice neighbourhood vibes at the bar, world-class cooking in the dining room. The food here is the platonic ideal of pub food - pristine produce cooked with care by Trish and her team with a funky wine list by Charlie. This is a local worth travelling for.
Italo
13 Bonnington Square, London SW8 1TE
If The Canton Arms, is the perfect pub, Italo is the perfect caff. It straddles a sun kissed corner of the hippie enclave that is Bonnington Square. No bells and whistle here, no Swedish designer chairs, laminated dough monsters or matcha creations - just simple honest food made fresh with the best ingredients, and a way of making everyone feel like a local.
Brunswick House Restaurant
30 Wandsworth Rd, London SW8 2LG
Nestled improbably between Vauxhall bus garage and the high-rises that make up Nine Elms and the American Embassy district is a slightly dilapidated stately home. To step inside is to leave the present behind. It is home to Lassco, the architectural salvage company, and to Brunswick House restaurant, where Jackson Boxer and his charismatic team serve up the most sophisticated and delicious take on London food. A true one-off.
And a little further afield....
M. Moens & Sons
24 The Pavement, London SW4 0JA
The well-heeled residents of Clapham demand only the best and Moens, the legendary butcher, knows how to provide. Everything here is of the highest quality, but the steaks are a particular highlight - sourced with care and aged in-house, when you splurge on a steak (and it is a splurge) you will not find any better.
