London's had quite a few restaurants start out as neighbourhood restaurants before the team try their hand at something central, but Jones & Sons are turning that on its head by going in the opposite direction. They started in Dalston and now they're taking things much further east, to South Woodford, for their second opening. The original has been a big hit and gained some notoriety as being the place where they filmed the original Boiling Point, the rather stressful kitchen-set film featuring Stephen Graham.
For those in the area, it's taking over what used to be Elmo's Pizza and owner Andy Jones has brought his head chef from Dalston, Kieran Hope (who's been with the business since the beginning) to create the menu in South Woodford. That's not going to be too dissimilar in style from the original, based around seasonal British produce, sourced from local suppliers.
A taste of the menu includes:
- Crab tagliatelle with chilli & spring onion
- Tempura courgette flower, goats’ cheese & wild honey
- Honey miso cod with apple dashi
They'll also be carrying on two things that have been a big hit in Dalston - their Saturday brunch and Sunday roast, with the latter offering a choice of roast Herefordshire rib eye, Welsh lamb rump, slow roast Hampshire pork belly or butternut squash, ricotta & spinach Wellington.
As for the look of the place, it's a two-floored affair. Downstairs will feature the open kitchen (with a chef's table), a cocktail bar and a function room while upstairs there will be dining and another bar space. They're also adding a brand new garden terrace.
On the vibes they're hoping for Jones says: "It may sound cliché, but there's something special about seeing people relax into their seats, knowing they're in for a memorable experience. Whether it's a romantic date, a casual catch-up with friends, indulging in a Sunday Roast with all the trimmings and wine, or letting loose over brunch, I want everyone to feel welcomed and cared for at Jones & Sons, South Woodford."
