Hackney Week residents looking for somewhere locally to buy groceries and household goods that are ethical and sustainable now have a new place to shop. Tuck Shop, which opened its doors last weekend on Fish Island, is what's being described as a "consciously curated general store, butcher and drink-in bottle shop".
What that means is you can pick up everything from ethically-sourced dairy and meat items to bread from local baker Bakery 4, pastries from Chow and coffee from Ozone. Household items include a refill station for household goods and If the idea of even shopping is too much at the end of a hard day, just pop in for tasting plates of cheese, meat and veggies and a glass of natural wine.
The store has been a labour of love by locals Samantha Scott and Jake Costain which crowdfunded to get the money they needed to launch. As Sam explains: "We were frustrated that we couldn’t just walk to a shop in Hackney Wick to buy both refillable products but also consciously-sourced meat and veg – especially during COVID, we need local options. Jake being a butcher and myself helping brands to grow their businesses, teaming up we knew we could make this happen."
