What: The Upper Place
In a nutshell: Holloway's Nags Head Market gets a makeover
Summing it all up: Holloway Road's food scene gets a further boost with news that the Nags Head Market is being extended for more street food traders.
From the outside, the Nags Head Market in Holloway is pretty unprepossessing, but in recent years it's been developing quite a food presence. There's Zen Washoku turning out decent sushi at low rent prices, the teeny Ho-ja Taiwanese stall and the "100% vegan and about 80% Lebanese" Hoxton Beach Cafe among others.
Now the folk behind pub group The Italian Job are planning to take the market to the next level, opening a dedicated street food market on the first floor here. There'll be 17 spaces on the first floor and five on the ground floor court - although those can be split in half so there could be upwards of 40 traders here.
The Upper Place which will be open all day and through into the evening says it will:
"...offer guests a tour around the globe through a selection of London’s most prolific street food brands with a focus on authentic and innovative concepts."
The Italian Job will trade on both floors of the market and there are plans to extend still further, building a roof terrace garden and vintage games room.
