Australian-inspired Tuck Shop opening at Dereham Place Shoreditch

Lucky old East Londoners, they're always getting some hip new cafe or restaurant that sounds right up Hot Dinners' street. The latest opening we've heard of is Tuck Shop which will open on Dereham Place in Shoreditch in May.

The chef is Australian Magnus Reid who has most recently been working in the kitchens at A little of what you fancy in Dalston. "I've worked in a lot of small businesses here in london, and really want to put something back into a community that I've been a part of for four years now," he told Hot Dinners. "I have also reached a point where I want a project of my own - and have enough contacts in the industry to make it work."

"The food will be seasonal, no strict cuisine as such, but heavily influenced by the top end of Australian cafes - small menus done really well. So there'll be a good breakfast and lunch selection - dare I say 'brunch' - and a huge focus on the coffee. I believe that London's coffee culture is currently focused on the 'best places to get coffee' when a coffee culture should be about getting good coffee in any cafe you walk into."

Tuck Shop will be attached to a photographic studio and a motorcycle work shop. all in a big railway arch complex. "The idea is we'll service the studios and any passing/take away trade during the day then do a main restaurant sitting at night. If you google map it you can just make out a small roof wedged in between a large building and the railway line - that's us!"

"The space is tiny, so we will be looking to get about 25-30 covers. It's my first solo project, and I'm only young so I don't want to bite off more than I can chew."

Tuck Shop will open at Dereham place EC2A 3HJ in May 2012.
