Opening in Shoreditch in late 2009, the original Pizza East brought a new audience to Soho House and much admiration from the critics. This second branch has opened in Ladbroke Grove - while bizarrely keeping the original "Pizza East" name. Expect the favourite pizzas from the original plus a few new ones (with a few portobello mushrooms sprinkled into the mix) as well as some new char-grilled dishes.

TV chef Theo Randall has been runngin this restaurant for well over a decade and before that, he was the head chef of The River Cafe. Even better than having his name over the door, in practice, Theo is in the kitchen for most of the services here - which is something you can't always expect in other big-name chef restaurants.

Avista
Mayfair, Belgravia

39 Grosvenor Square, Mayfair, London W1K 2HP

Michele Granziera spent six years honing his skills at Zafferano but this Italian restaurant at the Millennium Mayfair hotel doesn't appear to have won many fans. The fault could be either the laboured concept of sharing dishes or the fact that the dishes themselves aren't as nice as they should be. Either way - it needs to do better to stand out as a hotel restaurant that wishes to attract non-residents to its tables.

Ownership of this Mayfair restaurant hasn't changed, but there's a new man in the kitchen. Riccardo de Pra, is of good Italian cooking stock - his family own the Michelin-starred Ristorante Albergo Dolada in the Veneto. Prices are punchy - but the targeted clientele here probably won't quibble with that.

Il Baretto

43 Blandford Street, London W1U 7HF

There's a warm glow at Il Baretto, but is it just from the fabulous wood-fired oven? New owner Arjun Waney (Roka, Zuma, La Petite Maison) has done his best with a tricky floor layout and the introduction of an Enomatic machine does justice to an above-average wine list.
