Hidden away at the back of Los Mochis in Notting Hill (which is worth visiting too), you'll find this tiny omakase bar that fits just six diners every sitting. The menu here, which changes daily, takes inspiration from both Japanese and Mexican cuisines, so it's notably different to London's other omakase offerings. A cosy, intimate affair, it's right up there among London's very best omakase restaurants.

Former basement dive turned fully fledged restaurant and bar, Corrochio's is named after Guadalajara-born chef Daniel Corrochio who serves up an authentic day into night menu channelling Mexico's city's best taquerias. They also do a very popular Mexican take on brunch at the weekends and if you're just popping in for a drink, there's a separate CINCO agave bar downstairs.

The City branch of this Notting Hill fusion restaurant serves up a winning mix of Japanese dishes with Mexican influences. Its biggest selling point here at Liverpool Street is the late licence and capacious roof terrace with a great view of the City. There’s also a huge separate bar here as well.

Ixchel is a Mexican restaurant in Chelsea led by chef Ximena Gayosso Gonzalez (previously Brat, Ella Canta). Using locally sourced produce, the menu features tacos, tostadas and larger sharing plates like smoky adobo short rib or sea bass with pistachio mole verde. Just as useful is the downstairs bar which focuses on tequila.

Fonda is the second restaurant from Santiago Lastra who had such a big hit with his first restaurant Kol that it got onto the World's 50 best list. This is a slightly more casual and affordable Mexican restaurant when compared to Kol, with the menu focused around the type of home cooking the chef loves. Expect some great tacos as well as top cocktails, Palomas particularly.

This Mexican bar and restaurant is led by ex-Ella Canta chef Daniel Sanchez, who comes from Mexico City. His aim here is to deliver an authentic and vibrant Mexican restaurant where the bar scene is as important as the restaurant. The food includes tacos, quesadillas, enchiladas and more while the drinks list features a strong margarita section.

CDMX Tacos is a Mexico City-style hole-in-the-wall taqueria in the middle of Soho. It's specialising in tacos and quesadillas to grab and go with options including al pastor (marinated pork) and chicharron (crispy pork belly), paired with Mexican beers. An ideal spot for a snack while on the go in Soho.

Santiago Lastra's Michelin-starred Kol was at the forefront of the reinvigoration of Mexican food in London and is one of the few London restaurants on the World's 50 Best list. The restaurant mixes Mexican cooking with ingredients that are largely sourced in the UK for a more upmarket approach to Mexican cooking. The downstairs Mezcalareia bar is also excellent and worth a visit on its own.

Cavita is the London restaurant from Mexican-born chef Adriana Cavita, who was previously at top restaurants including El Bulli and Pujol. Here, you'll get a high-end Mexican menu in a relaxed setting as well as a separate downstairs mezcaleria.

At the top of the Standard hotel in King's Cross, Decimo is run by chef Peter Sanchez-Iglesias and features tapas-style food inspired by Mexico and Spain. The views are breathtaking, and you can enjoy pre-dinner drinks at the super glamorous rooftop bar.

Casa Pastor serves up Mexican classics like slow-cooked pork tacos and tuna tostadas with the outside heated area Plaza Pastor sharing a similar menu, potent cocktails and featuring live music and DJs at the weekend. It’s an excellent party spot in the centre of Coal Drops Yard.

After originally starting life as a taco shack in Netil Market, Sonora Taqueria have a permanent home in Stoke Newington. Here, you can find some of London's very best tacos, with things kicking off at breakfast (and with breakfast burritos too, of course). A must-visit if you consider yourself a connoisseur of tacos.

Zapote is a modern Mexican restaurant in the heart of Shoreditch with an ex-Aqua Nueva chef in the kitchen. All their tortillas are made in-house daily and the menu features a mix of the traditional and modern, with tacos and quesadillas sitting alongside dishes like their coal-roasted sweet potato. There is a big bar here too, so it's very handy for some of their cocktails and snacks.

This is a small two storey restaurant with a modern take on traditional Mexican from food husband and wife team Edson and Natalie Diaz-Fuentes. Here you'll find a menu which mixes what you know about Mexican cooking with more unfamiliar dishes.

Originally beginning life as Cool Chile Co stall on Portobello Road, the team moved inside to become Taqueria, serving up tacos, tostados, ceviches and all manner of Mexican treats. After many years, it still holds its own as serving some of London's best tacos.

This Notting Hill restaurant hashas created a whole new culinary category with its Mexican-Japanese fusion cuisine. Alongside tostadas, tiraditos and ceviche, there are 18 different tacos as well as plenty of tequila and mezcal. There's also a tiny omakase restaurant, Juno, hidden inside which is well worth a visit in itself.

Santo Remedio at London Bridge has established itself as one of London's top authentic Mexican restaurants. This is their second restaurant (but also where they originally started out some years back). They call the cafe "an ode to the bustling cafés of Mexico" with hits from the original Santo Remedio - like the tacos and guacamole - as well as Shoreditch-only dishes. Expect great margaritas and there's a handy takeaway hatch.

Since opening in Clapton, this trendy little taqueria has enjoyed a pretty meteoric rise in popularity, so it was only a matter of time before the Del 74 lads branched out. The new Dalston restaurant will provide all the dishes you know and love, plus an extended menu and mezcal bottles for sharing (or shooting) with the rest of the table....

El Pastor is from the people behind Barrafina, on a mission to do the same for Mexican food as they did for Spanish. There's a big focus around tacos, particularly on the signature Al Pastor and they have a super selection of Mezcal too.
Old Truman Brewery, 91 Brick Lane, London E1 6QL
Mexican restaurant Wahaca is branching out with a new long-term residency that's starting at the Truman Brewery this July. It will be inspired by Mexico City (Distrito Federal) and will serve freshly prepared dishes with a US influence.

NYC's Serge Becker has teamed up with Will Ricker (Great Eastern Dining Room) to create a downstairs restaurant and bar, a road side taqueria, and all-day contemporary Mexican café.
