Restaurant Reviews
201 Tooley Street, London SE1 2UE
Tom Sellers previously worked with the likes of Rene Redzepi at Noma, Adam Byatt and Thomas Keller before making his own name with the Michelin-starred Restaurant Story. It's led by a tasting menu that changes by the seasons while still keeping in a few signatures, like his beef dripping candle. After a major refurb, an entire new floor was added to the building adding a chef's table with an impressive view and terrace.
26 Smithfield Street, London EC1A 9LB
Alan Bird, former Executive Chef at the Ivy has opened this eponymous restaurant and bar in Smithfield, seating 150 people across five floors (with a roof terrace too). There is an all-day restaurant, bar and a few private dining areas serving traditional British food and the bar has been created by the people behind Purl.
50 Bermondsey Street, London SE1 3UD
This restaurant on the very foodie Bermondsey Street has a particularly retro styled menu, right down to the carvery trolley that will be wheeled between tables. Expect an all day menu (including Sunday brunch) in an environment that is "gym inspired".
ME by Melia Hotel, 336-337 The Strand, WC2R 1HA
This new hotel designed by (Norman) Foster + Partners takes over the old BBC Marconi building. As well as a rooftop bar offering great views of London, it's the first non-US outpost of New York steakhouse STK, which has taken over the ground floor restaurant. STK aims to be a more "female friendly" steakhouse, with an emphasis on lighter meals.
