As you may know, what was once London's In and Out Club on Piccadilly, Cambridge House, is getting a huge makeover at the moment and is due to launch as a new hotel sometime in 2026. If you're not quite familiar with that space, it's on Piccadilly with its gated driveway leading to the front door making it one of the most impressive-looking properties on the street.
The original information about the hotel said that it would include a "brasserie-style" restaurant and now we know what that's going to be. There had been murmurings that Major Food Group, the team behind the recently opened Carbone, were opening a restaurant there. Now, originally thanks to an Instagram story (quickly deleted) from Mario Carbone himself, that's been confirmed as the London outpost of The Grill, or at least a version "inspired" by it called Major's Grill.
In its New York incarnation, The Grill took over the space that used to be the Four Seasons restaurant in New York, inside The Seagram Building. That restaurant is a very modern-looking, gold-clad affair and, much like Carbone in either New York or London, is not the easiest place to get a table for dinner. It's described as a modern American chop house, with the menu including dishes like a honey mustard duckling, Amish ham steak with pickled pineapple and one of their classics, The Seagram crab cake. They also have whole Dover sole, steaks and a trolley service for their spit-roasted prime rib.
The menu for the London Carbone is very similar to the New York version, but it sounds like Major's Grill in London might establish more of its own identity. Details of Carbone were only released a few weeks before it opened, so it might be a while before we get any real detail on what's planned with the London opening. Watch this space.
