Do you know what's more stressful than opening a new restaurant in London just before Christmas? Opening two restaurants. But that's the delightful pickle that restaurateurs George Bukhov-Weinstein, Ilya Demichev and their business partner Elmira Amdiya find themselves in. One day after they throw open the doors to Pinna in Mayfair, they're dashing across to introduce Londoners to their next venture, Krokodilos.
A number of Hot Dinners readers had emailed us wondering what was opening on Kensington Church Street. Well now we can reveal that it's going to be a Greek restaurant called Krokodilos (we expect you can work out what that's the Greek word for...)
Heading up the kitchen will be chef Angelos Togias (ex-Jean Georges at The Connaught). He'll not only be celebrating Greek cuisine from Athens to the coast of Crete, but he'll also be getting the kitchen to specifically recreate some of his grandmother's best dishes.
The menu starts with a specific bread section, with five Greek oils to choose from, for dipping. Other dishes include:
- Fermented Potato flat Bread with smoked tomato, goat snow and oregano
- Prawns Saganaki with tomato and feta cheese
- Guineafowl with orzo and 12 month old graviera
- Krokodilos Greek yoghurt with quince jam and cardamom oil
The wine list will feature bottles "from the hills of Noussa to the island of Crete" and the cocktail list sounds interesting too, with a highlight being a dessert cocktail of Sour Cherry & Mastiha.
