If, like us, you live around Islington and have been wondering what's taking over the big site that used to be Rudy's Vegan Diner then wonder no more. Getting ready to open there is Philippe Conticini.
If that name sounds familiar, it's because you might have come across his work at the café in South Kensington or Camden's Buck Street Market. Or perhaps it's because of their absolutely enormous croissants which have been popping up all over TikTok.
Yes, if you thought the one thing that would improve your breakfast is a larger croissant, Phillipe Conticini cafés are making them big enough to fill your entire table. They even do a pain au chocolat that is just as massive. Do note that you will have to pre-order one if you fancy it (around £25 for each version).
It's not all about mammoth food, though. They'll have plenty of normal-sized French pastries and cakes from Paris Brest to Saint Honore tarts. There are also plans for the Islington site to open in the evenings, but they're going to get the cafe up and running properly before they get going on the evening plans.
This particular spot has been something of a tricky site for previous tenants, but we think this new cafe has a much bigger chance of being a success (pun only slightly intended).
