He's been popping up in various places over town, including most recently Robin Gill's Rye by the Water in Brentford, but now Ruben Dawnay's Ruben's Reubens is back. As with Rye by the Water, he's once again teaming up with Gill, and this time it's a three-month residency in Brixton Village.
Ruben entered the Brixton Kitchen competition when he was first starting out (a competition which also brought us the first Chishuru restaurant), so this sees him "back where it all started". As for those reubens, they're a nod to Ruben's Polish-Jewish background and as Robin Gill says, "He has a light touch with the smoke, yet manages to reach flavours that properly slap you in the chops."
The residency will see him bringing back those reuben sandwiches as well as lots more smoked BBQ action. The menu will include:
- Hot honey burnt ends
- House lamb sausage
- Kung pao-strami cauliflower
Also on the menu there'll be salt beef sandwiches, a latke bun and malted milk ice cream for dessert. Ruben himself adds "I’m beyond excited that it’s finally become reality. Expect big sandwiches, smoked BBQ, a serious cocktail selection, great music and lots of guest chef appearances."
