Chayote brings a mix of Mexican, Spanish and Peruvian food to St Katharine Docks

Chayote beings a mix of Mexican, Japanese and Peruvian food to St Katharine Docks

London's ongoing love affair with Mexican, Spanish and Peruvian food continues with a new restaurant that's bringing all three of them together to St Katharine Docks.

Called Chayote, it comes from Tomasz Baranski, an ex-Barrafina Head Chef who's the man who helped launch Donostia tapas in Marylebone. Here, he's teamed up with husband and wife team Georgy Vershinin and Susannah Hall for what they're calling "a modern and comfortable Mexican restaurant, with elegance at the core of its food, interiors, wines, cocktails and service."

As for what that means in practice, expect tostadas, tacos and quesadillas as well as larger dishes like:

  • Lamb Barbacoa in Adoba and Banana Leaf
  • Iberico Pork Carnitas, Roast Chayote and Red Mole
  • Chocolate Habanero Tart

We haven't seen the full menu yet, so we don't know how the Peruvian and Spanish elements will fit into the food offering. But for drinks, there will be plenty of South American wines and tequila, mezcal and pisco will be up front with cocktails including the Carajillo (a hot coffee cocktail).
