A Hot Dinners exclusive
If you’ve not travelled to Armenia lately (quite frankly, that’s probably a lot of us) then your palate will soon be able to take a trip there, thanks to Lusin restaurant, which is opening in the heart of Mayfair. Spanning two floors and seating 100 diners, it’s the first London outpost of Lusin, which initially launched in Riyadh in 2011 where it has hosted notable dignitaries, such as the late Kofi Annan. Designed by Riyadh-based architect and interior designer Marram Sediq, the restaurant even features walls made of Armenian tuff stone.
Meaning ‘moon’ in Armenian, Lusin will offer Armenian and Levantine fusion dishes with additional influences from Eastern Europe. The dishes will be created by Armenian cookbook author Madam Anahid Doniguian and curated by chef Marcel Ravin, who also runs the two-Michelin-starred Blue Bay restaurant in Monaco.
For those of you wondering what an Armenian/Levantine menu looks like, you can expect the likes of:
- Lusin Kibbeh: fresh meat, bulgar, nuts, Armenian spices and pomegranate molasses
- Cherry Kebab: spiced kebab skewers in signature home-made Armenian cherry sauce
- Lusin Salad: smoky-baked aubergine topped with shredded Armenian Tressed cheese served with vegetables and herb coulis
- Saffron Scottish mussels ragout with broad beans, chickpeas and green peas
- Lavash-baked seabass with confit fennel, sundried tomato, pistachio vierge and sauce bonne femme.
On the drinks front, cocktails come from mixologist Giancarlo Mancino, beverage and bar consultant for the Rosewood Hotels. There’ll also be Armenian wines available.
Lusin's arrival means it can surely expect a visit from one of the Kardashians (they're of Armenian heritage) the next time they're in town.
