London's now has a wine tasting class for parents and babies

wine and wean wine tasting classes for parents

As the kind of thing that would have puritanical Americans up in arms, but makes us love London even harder, the city now has regular wine tasting and pairing sessions for parents with babies. Wine & Wean is the brainchild of Holly Chaves who you may recall used to run Wine & Rind in Tottenham. Having taken extended maternity leave herself recently, Chaves decided to come up with a new project that combined her love of wine, gastronomy and motherhood.

The resulting project sees her joining up with female-led Burgundy wine specialists Emile Wines whose wines you may have seen - or tried - at Noble Rot or Brat. The idea is that new parents can learn how to taste and pair wines in a calm, child-friendly environment with like-minded local parents. Babies and toddlers of all ages are welcome.

To that end, the afternoon sessions will see Emile Wines pouring four glasses of their favourite wines for the season, with the option to add on a paired cheese board from Wine & Rind. The wine is served in modest 125ml quantities in stem-free glasses and there are spittoons provided on request.

To start with the first two sessions will take place at Truman's Social Club in Tottenham with more planned across town.

Given how stressful the early days of parenting can be, this does sound like a lot more fun than softplay or mini Mozart classes (it's a thing, trust us).
