Italian sustainable pasta chain Miscusi picks Covent Garden for its first UK opening

Back in Italy, it's got a cult following with queues around the block at each restaurant opening. Now the Miscusi pasta chain is coming to London.

Their first UK opening will be in The Yards in Covent Garden where Arome bakery and Dishoom are. As you might expect, it's all about fresh pasta - you can either pick your own pasta and sauce combos or opt for their choices, like:

  • Cacio Pepe Funghi - mushrooms in creamy cheese and pepper sauce
  • Rigatoni Tonno e Pistacchi - chickpea pasta with tuna and pistachio cream
  • Carbo croccante - Spaghetti carbonara with guanciale, Pecorino and chopped pistachios
  • Lentil Mezze maniche with diced tomatoes, basil and ricotta

There'll be appetisers and desserts on offer too, water fountains, and a wine list. And, if you're wanting somewhere sustainable to eat, this is going to be the second B Corp restaurant to launch in the UK. That means (we had to look it up) that it'll meet "the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance". In practice, they'll be working towards being entirely plastic-free and zero waste.

As part of that, they'll have a loyalty scheme - and the four pasta dishes on the menu with the lowest carbon footprint will get you double points on that scheme.

The company is the brainchild of Italian foodie Alberto Cartasegna who first learnt his trade when he was a kitchen assistant in London at Belgravia’s Oliveto Pizzeria when he was 18. Now he's a Forbes Under 30 entrepreneur with 12 restaurants to his name.
