Connaught House, 1-3 Mount Street, London W1K 3NB
This restaurant from Richard Caring (Scott's, Caprice) isn't doing anything by halves, as the name might suggest. From the moment you enter, you'll be met by a room dominated by galloping unicorns. That's all matched with a Greek-influenced menu, but it's the whole scene which is the real draw here.
82 Duke Street, London W1K 6JG
This Mayfair pub is now owened by the Cubitt House group who have given it a complete makeover, as well as completely relaunching the restaurant upstairs (which has been designed with a Mayfair clubby vibe). In charge of the food is chef Ben Tich and the menu here "takes its inspiration from Britain with a little bit of France."
41-43 Mount St, London W1K 2RX
This Mayfair restaurant comes from the people behind art gallery group Hauser & Wirth and is part of a building that also includes their own pub below. This upstairs restaurant is very much an upmarket affair, featuring a menu of classic British dishes (with a modern take) in a room covered in artwork that includes a stunning mosaic floor.
68 Regent St, Soho, London W1B 4DY
Alex Dilling (previously at The Greenhouse) is in charge of the main restaurant at Hotel Cafe Royal. He's only serving 34 diners and they're getting an exemplary tasting menu that's all based around a contemporary take on French cuisine. This gives the hotel the destination restaurant that such an iconic London building truly deserved.

This comes from Samyukta Nair, the restaurateur behind hits like Jamavar and Mimi Mei Fair. This time, it's all about Japanese food and it's a restaurant which comes in two halves. Downstairs is the dark hues Magma with plenty of robata grilling while upstairs is the lighter Midori, with a focus on Sushi.
56b South Molton Street, London W1K 5SH
Tucked down an alleyway off South Moulton Street, this new omakase restaurant from the owners of next-door Chisou feels like a secret discovery. There are just 10 seats, so everyone gets a ringside view of the kitchen action by husband and wife team of Tamas Naszai and Tomoko Hasegawa (both ex-Tokimeitē). Faultless sushi and sashimi follows with a menu that changes daily.
22 Grosvenor Square, London W1K 6LF
The Twenty Two is headed up by MD Darius Namdar who was one of the people behind the launch of Chiltern Firehouse and it certainly seems like he's brought some of that glamour to Mayfair. The buzzy restaurant also has top food credentials too, with ex Picture chefs Alan Christie and Colin Kelly in charge of the food.

Apricity is the latest restaurant from Chantelle Nicholson (previously behind Tredwells). Here, they have a menu that's veg-forward (but not exclusively) and have a strong eye on seasonality and low-waste. Expect some exceptionally crafted dishes here.

There’s been a Richoux on Piccadilly for 100 years, so the prospect of it becoming a casualty of the pandemic was worrying. Thankfully it now has new owners and hot new chefs breathing life into the old institution. The menu of brasserie classics is fairly well-priced for the location.

Cyril Lignac is A Big Deal in France where he has several restaurants and puts in regular appearances on French TV. This is the London outpost of his Bar des Pres concept which sees sushi made with Label Rouge salmon and his signature crunchy crab with avocado galette. The wine list is suitably French as are many of the clientele.

This is from Samyukta Nair, the restaurateur who brought us Jamavar and Bombay Bustle. With this Mayfair restaurant, she wants to take Londoners on a journey to 1920s Shanghai. Expect a glitzy high-end Chinese menu in this three-floored building which also has an excellent (but small) bar in the basement.

Bibi comes from chef Chet Sharma, previously at big name restaurants Moor Hall and L'Enclume and then Group Development Chef at JKS (Gymkhana). This time, he's in charge of his own kitchen at this Mayfair Indian restaurant. It takes its influences from across India "from roadside cafés from Punjab in the north, to Kerala in the south."
Royal Academy, Burlington Gardens, Piccadilly, London W1J 0BD
José Pizarro is one of the best Spanish chefs in London today. Here, he's taken over two of the restaurants in the Royal Academy - their main restaurant in the Dorfman Senate Rooms and the Poster Bar downstairs. He's produced another excellent menu of tapas which will suit anyone after they've had a dose of culture at the RA.

This Mayfair restaurant is inspired by the legacy of the late and hugely influential chef Joel Robuchon. Le Comptoir Robuchon is designed to both be inspired by and build on the Robuchon legacy - and you can still order the amazingly buttery pommes puree here.
Berkeley Square House, 4-19 Berkeley Square, Mayfair, London W1J 6BR
This Mayfair restaurant is an offshoot of the Spanish original which caused a sensation when it opened in Madrid. Designed to look like a rainforest, the restaurant looks like nothing else in London. Food is "a blend of tropical and Latin American cuisines" - so that means everything from Peruvian sushi to South American chupe and a lot of Josper-grilled meats.

A top Japanese izakaya in Mayfair - if you're looking for excellent sushi without the Mayfair prices, this is the place you come. Chef Takamasa Mogi was previously at Nobu and goes big on omakase where you let him choose what to feed you.

The kind of restaurant you're as likely to find yourself sitting next to the Queen as you are a Cork Street art dealer. Run by the ebullient Gavin Rankin and tucked away in a mews off Berkeley Square, it looks like it's been here forever rather than being just a teenager in restaurant terms.

Mayfair's Shepherd Market is the site of this dinky all day Japanese bar, with an ex-Novikov Head Chef in charge, serving up gyoza, soft shell crab salads and green pancakes for breakfast.

Run by the double act of chef Nieves Barragán and GM Josè Etura, Sabor is the kind of restaurant everyone wants to try, and once they've been are immediately plotting a return visit. It's a restaurant of two halves with the Asador on the upper level and counter dining by the open kitchen on the ground floor. Obviously, you're going to want the croquetas, but everything else will be great as well.

Inspired by the street food of Mumbai Bombay Bustle, it offers lunchtime tiffins, with a menu packed full of exciting, seasonal ingredients you may not be familiar with, that's cooked by someone who definitely knows what they're doing.

The Guinea Grill has been a London steak institution since 1952 and it's still going strong, most recently revived under the recent leadership of former-landlord Oisin Rogers. Expect perfectly cooked steaks in an old school setting and a breakfast menu that'll set you up for days.

Francesco Mazzei is chef patron of Sartoria restaurant on Savile Row in Mayfair, serving dishes from his native Calabria as well as other regions in Italy. They go big on truffles here and the sommelier is a London gem.

Park Chinois plays homage to the opulence and decadence of 1930s Shanghai, with regional Chinese food and live entertainment. It's very OTT, but no less fun for all that.

Berkeley Square's see and be seen seafood restaurant (with grilled meats too). There's a super selection of Japanese whiskies at the bar and the private dining rooms are jaw-dropping.

This is the restaurant that catapulted Tomos Parry (now heading up Brat) to fame, while signalling the reinvigoration of the restaurant scene on Shepherd Market. It's a teeny, but romantic space.

Formerly owned by Corbin and King this is the restaurant of The Beaumont - The Colony Grill Room. The hotel is redolent of the era of Grand Hotel grill rooms.

The Sethi family's concept of taking a colonial gymkhana club theme and serving modern Indian food combined with British ingredients, with a focus on the tandoor oven and sigri charcoal grill was an instant hit. Always packed with A-listers and foodies alike.

One of the biggest Hawksmoors of the standout steak group, this one has great views over Regent Street and also places a special focus on seafood dishes created by fish maestro Mitch Tonks. It's a big old room too.

From the team at Caprice Holdings, this 100-seat steak restaurant in the heart of Mayfair has been a celebrity haunt since Day 1. It has a focus on rare breeds and game, while also offering a collection of lighter dishes. Designed by Martin Brudnizki, it's a popular spot and great for brunch.
