Shoreditch, Clerkenwell

This restaurant, bar and coffee shop has taken over three renovated railway arches right next door to Hoxton Station and has James Ferguson in charge (former Head Chef at the much-loved Rochelle Canteen). The food is seasonal, produce led British cooking - what else? - and menus will change daily.

"A very short menu, with just six mains, also provides a solid onglet steak with beetroot, pickled walnuts and strong horseradish, and a whole lemon sole that comes beautifully off the bone and has grilled cucumber and sea beet for company." READ REVIEW

"I can’t say it wasn’t enjoyable – there comes a point (three drinks in) when you stop minding the noise and start to feel enlivened by your own shouting. But I don’t think it has any great food answers that we didn’t already know." READ REVIEW

"Prices are keen (where else in London can you get a glass of wine for £3.25?), portions are generous and the bar offers a list of novel cocktails including Tisane, made with rum, rosehip and black pepper bitters." READ REVIEW

"Beagle is a surprise in this part of London, where so many bars are style over substance. It deserves to go the distance for making Haggerston a culinary destination beyond its famous, budget-priced Vietnamese cafés." READ REVIEW

"The beef is startlingly handsome, precisely cooked to a rosy rare interior and served in slices fanned around the bone, but neither texture nor flavour makes you sad to see the last slice go. The chips, however, are masterful." READ REVIEW
