June's hottest restaurants, National Cafe offer, Gezellig preview & more...
If you're a glass half empty person, you could be glumly thinking well that's the last bank holiday we have for ages. But a more positive outlook would be that well at least it's only four working days till the weekend. Sticking with the thumbs-up scenario we've updated our Hot Right Now list for June, a few days early and if you have friends or relatives coming into town for a visit anytime soon, our offer at the new National Cafe at the National Gallery could be very handy.
Oh, and we've given the site a bit of a new-look. More modern and easy to read (or at least that's what we were going for. Hope you like it!
31 May - there'll be free pizza at MOD pizza on Leicester Square as the group celebrates its first birthday. Turn up between 11am and 8pm for a free pizza or salad
1 June - Adam Rawson will take over the rooftop at Brixton Beach for one night only, for the launch of “BBQ Thursdays on the Beach showcasing a Cubano Medianoche Burger and other BBQ dishes including Pina Colada Ceviche, Pollo Al Estillo Cubano (Cuban-style chicken, avocado mayo, salsa criolla) and Spiced Fries with Mojo Verde. To make sure of your food, order a food token in advance.
4 June - for London Food Month Bloodshot Supper Club is coming to the The Cooks’ Room, Hawksmoor Borough for a very special late night session. Tickets are £75 and include cocktails and snacks, and a five course menu with plenty of wine and beers, and more cocktails with all proceeds from tickets going to Action Against Hunger.
7 June - R Chocolate London are hosting a Caviar & Chocolate pairing with King’s Fine Foods. Royal Belgian Oscietra Caviar and Siberian Sturgeon from King’s Fine Foods will be used in the dishes and all guests will be served a chilled glass of Champagne upon arrival. Tickets are £25 - call 0207 730 5522 to book.
16 June - for World Tapas Day Brindisa’s classic tapas like croquetas and tortilla will be available for £5 all day in London Bridge, Shoreditch, Soho, Rupert Street and South Kensington.
28-30 June - head to Goode & Wright in Notting Hill for Three Girls Cook - a supperclub by MasterChef finalists Alison, Giovanna and Lornahree. Get a welcome glass of fizz and a selection of hot and cold canapes for £60.
Red Rooster London - Shoreditch Marcus Samuelsson's New York restaurant is hugely popular, and it's coming to the Curtain Hotel in Shoreditch. The legendary yardbird fried chicken and Helga's meatballs are making it over here too.
Piebury Corner - King's Cross Famed pie sellers Piebury Corner are opening a new pie shop and deli to serve up some of the best pies in town, alongside mash and roast potatoes and all washed down with craft beer. It's a much bigger spot than the original
Senor Ceviche - Fitzrovia A new Fitzrovia branch of Carnaby Street's Señor Ceviche will not only have all the usual favourites, but there'll be an exciting new brunch menu, and an underground pisco bar with loads of cocktails, as well as the usual Sours.
Xu - Soho Bao have been one of the big success stories in London. Now the team behind it are opening their third restaurant, an upmarket Taiwanese restaurant in Soho.Opens 31 May.
Calcutta Street - Brixton Shrimoyee Chakraborty is opening a new Calcutta Street with a big focus on atmosphere and small sharing plates. There’ll be some new menu additions, plus bespoke cocktails made with traditional Shorbot.Opens 1 June.
Stecca - Chelsea Stefano Stecca, formerly at Toto's, is keeping it simple in his latest project by using top grade ingredients to create traditional Italian cuisine, including Crudi - a raw fish dish made with freshly caught Cornish fish. Opens 1 June.
